because in their crude way they still are useful somehow. for instance when they manage to turn a parting scene with rather teary potential (daruman's snowgirl is leaving to spend six months in ecuador) into a stand-up comedian's sketch.

"no rush, you can get out again, still got forty-five seconds an i'll just look soemwhere else." - "just a sec, i'm going to disable the automated closing mechanism, so you can hang on to each other to the last moment." - "fifteen seconds to go." - "here we go, let's do the waving together." (waves, screws his face into a clownlike scowl and sobs noisily)

who knows, if the "sbb" do not train their personnel to stay calm when criticized maybe so in dealing with emotionally troubling experiences for the well-being of the travellers. anyway, daruman will not blame this guard for making him laugh in that moment.
